Photography in Canada: 1960 - 2000
Organized by the Canadian Photography Institute of the National Gallery of Canada, this exhibition celebrates the diversity of photographic production in Canada between 1960 and 2000. This period experienced an enormous growth in the practice, collection and display of photography. Whether in the form of fine art prints, documents or conceptual art components, the medium was especially adept at articulating the role of art and the artist in modern society, as well as differing ideas of identity, sexuality and community. With over 70 photographs by 51 different artists represented, this exhibition is formulated around themes such as conceptual, documentary, urban landscape, portrait and landscape photography, it investigates how certain ideas of photography both endure and change across decades.

Organisée par l’Institut canadien de la photographie du Musée des beaux-arts du Canada, cette exposition célèbre la diversité de la production photographique au Canada entre 1960 et 2000. La période qu’elle couvre correspond à celle des grandes avancées; dans la réalisation, le collectionnement et la présentation d’oeuvres photographiques. Que ce soit sous la forme de tirages artistiques, de documents ou d’éléments d’oeuvres d’art conceptuel, la photographie s’est révélé un moyen d’expression privilégié pour illustrer le rôle de l’art et de l’artiste dans la société moderne ainsi que différents points de vue sur l’identité, la sexualité et la collectivité. Avec plus de 70 photographies produites par 51 artistes, l’exposition s’articule autour de thèmes tels que l’art conceptuel, le documentaire, le paysage urbain, le portrait et la photographie de paysage, elle aborde aussi les différentes conceptions de la photographie qui ont persisté ou changé au fil des décennies.
