The Rooms Welcomes Everyone.
We are happy to help make your visit meaningful. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact us before your visit. We can discuss by phone, email, video call, or in person.
Accessible Washrooms
Accessible washrooms are located on all levels.
All Gender Washroom
An all-gender washroom is located to the left of our Visitor Service Desk, at the end of the hallway past the cloak room.
ASL Interpreting Services
Members of the deaf community can request ASL interpreting services for many of our programs. The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of the Deaf (NLAD) arranges ASL and requires two weeks’ notice. Please email us to request this service.
Assistive Listening Technology
We are happy to offer assistive listening technologies for programs in our theatre and boardroom. The theatre is equipped with Williams Sound Headphones that link to our sound system through a receiver. We have a variety of headphones for loan or you can bring your own. For more information on this system, you can follow this link.
The Boardroom is equipped with Sennheiser Mobile Connect. In order to use this system, you need to download an app available at either the Apple Store or the Google Store.
This equipment needs to be requested before you arrive as there is a security pin and wireless network access required. Please contact Visitor Services to request. For more information on this system, you can follow this link.
Attendants
Attendants supporting persons with disabilities receive free admission to The Rooms.
Blue Zone Parking
Blue zone parking is in front of the building for free. Additional Blue zone parking is in our lot at the side of the building for $3 per hour. Access to this lot is on Fort Townshend Road which is accessed from Harvey Road.
Elevators, Lifts and Stairs
Elevators are located to the right of the Visitor Service Desk. There are lifts in the galleries and atrium. Stairs are to the left of the Visitor Services Desk as well as within our galleries and atrium. All floors at The Rooms are accessible.
Families
All washrooms have changing tables. For the safety of your baby, and to protect our collections, please use front facing baby carriers. If you do not have one, we are happy to offer the use of a stroller for free.
Mobility
For your convenience, walkers, wheelchairs, and baby strollers are available free of charge at our Visitor Services Desk.
Noise-Cancelling Headphones
If you would like to borrow noise-cancelling headphones, you can ask for a set at the Visitor Service Desk.
Quiet Spaces
The Rooms has many areas that are quiet and calming. Staff at the front desk can assist you in finding these areas around the building: the All Gender Washroom on Level 1 is a ‘safe space’ equipped with a small sitting area, the Art Pod between Level 3-4 in the Art Gallery has lower light and comfortable chairs, the Archives Reference Room on Level 3 is usually quiet and also has chairs.
Please contact Visitor Services in advance, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
