Arts and Letters
This exhibition highlights the 2025 Arts & Letters Awards and Confederation 75 winners alongside a selection of vibrant and diverse submissions from Newfoundland and Labrador’s creative community. Spanning Visual Art, Literary Arts, Media Arts and Music, these works reflect the remarkable depth of talent across the province.
For over 70 years, the Arts & Letters Awards Program has nurtured both emerging and established artists, offering adjudication, cash prizes, and the opportunity to share their work with a wider audience. More than a competition, it is a catalyst for artistic growth and a celebration of creative expression.
Since its inception in 1952, the program has played a pivotal role in shaping Newfoundland and Labrador’s cultural landscape, with past winners including renowned artists such as Michael Pittman, David Blackwood, and Christopher Pratt; literary figures like Lisa Moore, Bernice Morgan, and Kevin Major; and musicians such as Rob Power and Duane Andrews.
Administered by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, the Arts & Letters Awards continue to champion artistic excellence, fostering a thriving creative community for generations to come.
In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Confederation, The Arts and Letters Awards Program created a one-time, inter-disciplinary category for the 2025 Awards. Arguably the most studied aspect of Newfoundland and Labrador’s political history, Confederation is a milestone that, even 75 years later, continues to spark conversations. As we reflect on the legacy of confederation with Canada during 2025, the Confederation 75 category of the Arts and Letters Awards is intended to contemplate this historic event through various forms of artistic expression.
Join us in celebrating the voices, visions, and sounds that define our province’s artistic community.
