Classics in Newfoundland: An Unexpected Presence

This exhibit, a collaboration between The Rooms Provincial Archives and the Department of Classics at Memorial University, explores the presence of Greco-Roman antiquity in the history and cultures of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. While classical Greece and Italy are distant in both space and time, the classical legacy persists in traces and memories that both shape the cityscape of St. John’s and contribute to the province’s cultural richness.
