Home and School (Grades 3 – 8)
This program is a great way for students to see what life was like at the turn of
the 20th Century. Students can experience everyday life in outport Newfoundland. This program involves hands-on activities like washing clothes and using pen
and ink. It is recommended that students wear old clothes as some parts of the program tend to be messy.
Museum Match (Grades 1 – 2)
This program is designed for students at the Primary level. It’s an educational
game where students find items on a heritage card and learn what these
items were used for. So much fun – they won’t realize they’re learning!
From The Ground Up: An Introduction to Archaeology
(Grades 2 – 7)
This program involves an introduction to the work of archaeologists, why this work is important and how it helps us understand the pre-history of Newfoundland and Labrador. Students examine archaeological artifacts from pre-and post-European contact and become involved in a dig using all the techniques and tools of the archaeologist.
The Dory: A Legendary Craft
(Grades 3 – 8. Program can be adapted for high school students.)
This interactive, hands-on educational program focuses on the daily life of a dory man in the Grand Banks schooner fishery. Participants assemble the equipment and necessities for a day on the Grand Banks using our full-sized Grandy dory and education artifact collection. Activities involve setting a trawl line, setting a course, setting a hook, and sampling hard bread.
