In Conversation: Nunatsiavummiut Art for Sustainability

How can art and science support each other in the pursuit of sustainability? How does an artist’s connection to the land and their culture find place in their work?

Hear from artists Eldred Allen, Emelia Angnatok, and Roberta Baikie-Andersen as they reflect on their practices during the Sustainable Nunatsiavut Futures Arts Collective Residency program.

This is a free program, but a ticket is required. Please reserve your free ticket online or by calling 709-757-8090.

Artist Bios:
Eldred Allen is a self-taught Inuk photographer from Rigolet who captures landscape and wildlife images of his community. His unique perspectives utilize both a handheld camera and UAV/drone. Allen had a solo exhibition “Resemblance” at The Rooms, St. John’s, Newfoundland in addition to national and internation group shows.

Emelia Angnatok is an Inuk from Nain with a passion for beading and creating art with beads. She studies at Memorial University during the academic year and returns home for the spring/summer.

Roberta Baikie-Andersen was born and raised in Rigolet but currently lives in Makkovik. She is happiest on the land and it inspires her to create art using a wide range of media (traditional clothing, sketching, photography, painting, beadwork, embroidery, and grass sewing).
