Drawing The View: Children’s Drawing Workshop

What does downtown St. John’s look like from above?

In this creative drawing workshop, children in Grades 4–6 will explore the city from a special vantage point: the third-floor atrium of The Rooms. Looking out over downtown, young artists will be guided to observe buildings, streets, and the harbour, and to notice how shapes, lines, and details come together to tell a story about place.

Participants will look at historic photographs and contemporary paintings to see how artists from Newfoundland and Labrador have captured St. John’s over time. Using both careful observation and imagination, children will learn simple drawing strategies and then create their own artwork inspired by the view and by what they’ve seen in the galleries.

All materials are provided, and no previous drawing experience is needed.
