Sullivan’s Songhouse on the Road
Join host Sean Sullivan and special musical guest Sheldon Thornhill for Sullivan’s Songhouse on the Road, an old-fashioned kitchen party right here at The Rooms!
Sean will serve up an authentic song session that is both engaging and entertaining, drawing on his experience growing up on the Southern Shore, where songs and stories were a major part of his Irish-Newfoundland heritage.
This will be a 2-hour program with an intermission and a cash bar for 19+.
Tickets: $30 plus HST. 10% discount for Rooms members. Get your tickets online or by calling 709-757-8090.
Sean Sullivan hails from Calvert on the Southern Shore of Newfoundland. He remembers growing up surrounded by wonderful unaccompanied singing by his mother, grandfather, uncles, and aunts at an early age. It wasn’t long before he regularly joined in the sessions with some of his other siblings. He learned to play rhythm guitar in his early twenties and has been singing in some form or another ever since. Sean is also one half of a folk duo called Sullivan & Slaney, and they play regularly at the Irish bars around St. John’s and music festivals around the Avalon.
Sheldon Thornhill is a world class entertainer who perfectly embodies the Newfoundland spirit, and his personality is infectious! Sheldon's unique style of playing the button accordion while singing at the same time (not an easy feat) is a site to be behold. Sheldon was a major part of a group called the Soirees and a major force with the non-for-profit group The Concert Crowd. Sheldon was also the man that took out his accordion first and started the now famous kitchen party at Toronto Pearson Airport that went viral shortly afterwards.
