All seafaring cultures have cautionary tales. What were sailors afraid of, and what could the stories be trying to tell us about what lay above, and below, the water? Shadowy stories from the past remain present in the culture of Newfoundland and Labrador today. 

Using artifacts from our historical, archeological, natural history, and archival collections, this exhibition offers insights into the history of real and imagined dangers of this province’s seafaring past.
